Abstract. New media is an area where monopoly-level concentrations, profit formation, and capital accumulation occur. In the field of new media, information, products and services are produced and distributed under capitalist market conditions, as in traditional media. The research followed a critical political economy approach and reviewed the literature on new media to reveal the elements of the capitalist mode of communication that define the field of digital communication. The literature review in the study allowed for a specific categorization and identification of the argument and discursive position of new media approaches. In the study, it is evident that research examining technology from a political economy perspective-as opposed to a liberal or neoliberal oriented technology discourse-emphasizes the forces of production and the relations of production. This study examines how the forces of production and the relations of production shape the new media structure.
